Laboratory Testing

Our clinic offers a variety of testing to help shed light on imbalances in the body that may contributing to your symptoms. Listed below are some of the most common testing that is available. Please note: Though many of our tests are run through conventional labs (eg. Lifelabs), OHIP doesn’t cover testing when ordered by an ND. If you have extended medical benefits, please check with your provider, often testing is covered under your extended medical plan.

Allergy and Sensitivity testing

IgG and/or IgE testing is done via blood serum via Lifelabs or other conventional lab. Two of the antibodies involved in allergic or hypersensitivity reactions are immunoglobulin E (IgE) and immunoglobulin G (IgG). IgE antibodies are produced after ingestion or inhalation of an allergen. These ‘Type I immediate hypersensitivity reactions’ rapidly yield common ‘allergy’ symptoms such as itchy eyes, hives or anaphylaxis. IgG antibodies are produced for several hours or days after exposure to an offending substance and are called Type III delayed hypersensitivity reactions. IgG reactions can promote a state of low grade inflammation or reactivity in the body which can contribute to a variety of symptoms. IgG levels will often decrease if the substance is avoided for a particular period of time.

These tests assess hormone status, often associated hormone imbalance related to infertility, PMS, heavy or painful periods, menopause, andropause, hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism and imbalance of adrenal hormones contributing to sleep, mood or energy disturbance. Hormone testing is done via blood, urine or saliva.

Stool, urine, saliva or blood tests are used to assess gastrointestinal function. This may include evaluation of bacterial balance, digestion, absorption, yeast and parasites. Tests may be useful for patients with any gastrointestinal related symptoms, such as indigestion, candida/yeast overgrowth, constipation, diarrhea, Crohn's, colitis or IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). A test kit is given to the patient for saliva, stool or urine testing and the collection is done at home. The kit is then brought to the conventional lab (Lifelabs) for analysis

We offer a wide variety of other tests including routine bloodwork, assessment of micronutrient levels, organic acids, environmental chemicals and heavy metals and neurotransmitter status

Includes basic lab testing as done through your conventional care provider - CBC, general chemistry, tests to assess liver, kidney, thyroid function, etc. We also offer serum testing for Chronic Lyme Disease (through Armin labs, a German lab with blood sample taken at Lifelabs and sent via ICL overseas), testing for heavy metals, toxic chemicals and persistent organic pollutants, tests to assess nutritional status and organic acid testing among others.
